On-the-job teaching

Msc In Medical Education 0 0 0

This 1-day clinical teaching workshop is part of our teach-the-teacher series, designed specifically for doctors involved in postgraduate medical education. Focused on on-the-job teaching, the workshop equips participants with effective teaching techniques to use during ward rounds, clinics, and other clinical settings.

Whether you're new to teaching or looking to refine your approach, this training offers practical strategies to strengthen your teaching skills as a clinician. By the end of this workshop, you’ll be better prepared to support learners and contribute meaningfully as a doctor educator in the workplace.

“The efficacy of quality teaching is paramount in today’s clinical environment.” – Gervais Samra, 4 July 2024 – Online

What you will learn

This workshop provides practical suggestions on how to maximise learning opportunities and become a more effective teacher. By identifying techniques for teaching knowledge, clinical skills and professional behaviour, you will learn how to successfully incorporate teaching sessions into all clinical commitments.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • integrate teaching and learning into everyday service provision
  • increase opportunities on the ward and other settings and the proportion of time available for education
  • understand how knowledge, clinical skills and professional behaviour can be acquired and taught
  • plan ahead, to enable on-the-job teaching to become more effective and efficient
  • evaluate the effectiveness of your on-the-job teaching.

Teaching faculty

Our workshops are jointly delivered by medical educationalists and senior doctors. This balance of joint facilitation is key to the value and success of our workshops.

Our experienced medical educationalists bring theoretical understanding and practical teaching experience from a variety of academic backgrounds.
